......and the Augers Gambit.

Has anybody read the two new(ish) Donaldson novellas yet who could give them a quick review for me. I'm in two minds whether to spring for them or join the reservation que at the library and wait a further 3 months. I was not a Mordants Need fan and Augers Gambit sounds a bit along those lines to me (not to pre-judge or anything Wink) but the first one does sound intriguing.

Any comments guys that could help me decide.

Haven't read (got) them yet. There's a thread in the Gen SRD forum, but it might be spoilerish.

I would wait. They're fine, but you should get a nice block of cheese instead...for I can not get any here!

The Auger's Gambit is a little like Mordant's Need...but not that much like it. The King's Justice got a little intense toward the end. Shocked

That's intriguing Ali. From the eyes I'm guessing it was a little 'not to your taste' intense?

Hey, what a coincidence. I just started reading this today, and then find someone started a thread about it today. Cool. It starts out well. I like the simple prose, pulling you in. I haven't got very far.

Hi Z. Simple prose from Donaldson - what, no long obscure words! Laughing Seriously though, I seem to remember reading one of his 'teaser' trailers from TKJ and being as you say, drawn in pretty fast.

Nah -- I didn't have a problem with it. But I read some reviews by readers who complained about a key, but quite bloody, scene toward the end. Clearly they hadn't read any of the Malazan books. Laughing

Lots of inferior cheese. Lots of it. Shocked

To give you an idea, there was a brief time that I could get Cathedral mature cheddar, and thought "wow, this is some of the best stuff I've ever had!"

I expect that to be depressing to you.

Terribly depressing. But then, in general, American's tend to fail to understand either cheese or chocolate. Wink

(There are rare exceptions of course. Very Happy )
