Well, my guess is...

Spoiler:
Probably because some bedpan cleaning apprentice was responsible for successfully administering the cure. After he left Sam to copy all of those old texts the Archmaester probably waddled over to his colleagues to discuss how to proceed with implementation.

Of course that's just a guess. Big Grin

I thought this was the best episode so far this season. I loved the Tyrion/Jon moments, too. Even more, I thought the first meeting of Jon and Daenerys was epic. However, I thought it also had the fastest pace so far. We saw both Casterly Rock and Highgarden fall in one episode. Bran was reunited with his family after 6 seasons. Jon met his future wife. Cool Jaime found out who killed his son. Cersei got revenge for her daughter's death. I can't remember another single episode with so many huge moments.

Events are flying by! Makes me wonder why did the producers decide on 13 final episodes? Seems the could stretch it out a bit and get 20 episodes.

It was already a known technique that is incredibly risky and doesn't always work, and of course is banned. Even the guy who invented it only had a couple of successes then died of it.

Yeah, amazing episode!

Did anyone think the Arya-Sansa reunion was weird?

Does anyone really think that Arya wielding Needle could stand against Brienne swinging a great sword?

Arya might be the most deceptively dangerous person in the Seven Kingdoms.

I'm by no means an expert in sword fighting, but I think they made the Arya/Breinne fight look convincing. I think the most implausible aspect would be the parries, but if Arya hit at just the right angles, she could probably turn the sword enough to get out of the way. She wasn't really stopping it as much as deflecting it. It's like altering the trajectory of an asteroid just enough to miss the earth. A little nudge in the right way is all it takes.

Other than that, I see no problem with speed and skill being a match for strength. After all, she was taught by a guy who could hold off knights with a wooden sword. Very Happy

My biggest problem with the episode was knowing who to root for in the battle! Sure, dragons are awesome, but would I really choose one over a human I like, such as Bronn? Yeah, Jaime is a Lannister, but do I really want to see him be burned alive or drowned? After all, he didn't leave his men. He fought valiantly. It's easy to be brave riding a freakin' dragon! I wouldn't shed a tear for Cersei is she were burned alive, but other than her, it's going to be difficult rooting for one side over another in the coming wars. They really do need to unite and fight the threat beyond the Wall.

Yes, Arya and Sansa were "weird" ... But as they had never gotten along before, they find themselves united as family but with no bonds to re-affirm, only a shared understanding that's it's time to put childish ways behind them.

I think they got the Arya/Sansa meeting perfectly.

From the opening of the story through the death of Eddard, there is not a single place where they are lovey-dovey sisters. They were always complete opposites; each one thinking the other was stupid. After all that has happened, Sansa was able to see how Arya's determination of not being a proper lady had some merit (she learned about the swordfight when she lost Lady, she saw how she out shot Bran on the bow and knew her for being fierce). Sansa also was fortunate to have met Lady Brienne, who was no simpering lady of the court, and yet a proper lady of honor, and was able to save Sansa when she was about to be taken back to Ramsey. Likewise, Arya learned from her travels towards the wall, and then with the Faceless Men, the discipline (and the need for it) that Sansa and Catelyn were never able to cultivate.

Sansa hugged Arya first. She was the Lady of Winterfell and despite their being sisters, it was Sansa who should initiate it upon first meeting. In trying to figure out their new relationship, they started with the old: Sparring. Sansa admonished Arya for "running from the guards." Arya shot back, "I didn't run. You need better guards."

They then built tentative bridges, asking about their long journeys, but as they had never been confidants, they didn't go into details which would have been weird. Arya showed respect for Sansa, something that had never been spoken, and which Sansa needed to hear, and then they built upon their shared love for Eddard. Finally, Arya reached in and hugged her sister, and at that point, they both knew that they were safe and friends, as well as sisters.

I agree with Meera. Bran did die in the cave. At least Bran the young boy of Winterfell. His relationship with his family will never be the same, as he is no longer a human boy, but the 3 eyed raven. It was fun to watch as he recited Littlefinger's own words to him while handing him the knife. Despite Littlefinger's words to Sansa about working everything out so that nothing is a surprise, I believe THAT surprised him. And Petyr doesn't like surprises....

The battle scene was pretty good. It was hard to know who to cheer for at times. Somewhere, there is a scene from season 1 where Robert Baratheon is describing the current situation and Cersei's not so good chances in her castle, as "only an idiot would face the Dothraki in the open field." Robert was a bad king. He was a great warrior and knew his stuff. If I am not mistaken, the wagons were full of grain, as Lord Tarly said the Gold had passed the Gate at King's Landing. Not that the Iron Bank will be seeing much of it until things change. And even then, if Dany gets the throne, she is less likely to pay off the Lannister/Baratheon debts.

It will be interesting to see where the next episodes go.

I agree. Didn't seem weird to me at all. It perfectly encapsulated all the time these two sisters had been apart, all the ways they'd changed and grown.

Now Bran telling Sansa that she looked beautiful at her forced marriage to a rapist murderer, that was weird! I kept expecting him to tell Arya, "You looked so beautiful ... wearing that other girl's face as you killed Lord Frey." Laughing

Last week was amazing. I loved the usual phalanx (do I have that right?) formation split down the middle by the dragon and all the troops rushing in. Well done and nothing I've seen before. I like a lot of what went on in the show the past week, and I didn't expect a dragon attack at all.
This week was another setting up episode. I didn't get the Arya/Littlefinger scene, and what Arya discovered. I guess I should look for explanation as I didn't have time to read it.
Still, lots happening, but doesn't feel as needlessly rushed as the first batch of episodes, so I'm happy. I really liked the Tyrion/Jamie meeting as well.
Only two more episodes, right? Can't wait to see what is going to happen. At least we finally got the White Walkers back in the story again.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 5...You've been warned!

OK, so i re-watched the first 4 episodes leading into this one before it came on. It somewhat helped me understand what was going on with Arya/Littlefinger. I base this on the unfolding of these events:

Littlefinger tells Sansa to fight all the battles in her mind so that she is never surprised (a la Litlefinger-LF). We then see LF being genuinely surprised by Bran, who quotes him (Chaos is a Ladder) while he is handing over the knife that made Bran what he was--though he was thinking a frightened child who endured being chased, but who doesn't really know the full three-eyed raven thing...suddenly met with his own words and a knowing look. Next, we see LF overlooking the sparring between Arya and Brienne where the knife he had given to Bran is now in Arya's hand. But She, unlike Sansa, knows how to use it. He also sees Arya goad Brienne into sparring, as she is trying to pass her off to the master at arms and starts to share a "nicely played" look with Sansa when she succeeds. After winning the round, Sansa leaves, without a "well done" while LF watches. Arya looks up at him. Now, whether or not LF put the "no one" to the Faceless god of Bravos or not is up for debate. However, he does know that the Freys are all dead, and that Arya is not an innocent little girl he can intimidate, as she looks at him long and hard, before he gives her a courtly bow and head off after Sansa, whom he is constantly following. But, her pride is her downfall, and even though she watched Brienne tell Podrick not to Lead where your enemy wants you to follow, she falls into the same stupidity, trying to out-scheme Littlefinger. She follows him (but not in a new face, but rather her own...misstep #1), and gets maneuvered into reading the nonsense Sansa sent from the first season ("Sansa's hand, but Cersei's words" as Catelyn and Rob determined). One gathers that he is aware of the tension between the sisters, and wants to play it to his own advantage. There are far too many Starks in Winterfell, and he would like nothing better than to be made King in the North, married to Sansa (for legitimacy, of course), especially if "something" were to "happen" to Jon Snow (we know how well Starks fare when they go south...). So by sewing discord between Sansa and Arya, there is less chance that the younger sister will fight to keep her half-brother in power, or can be dealt with should she try to keep Sansa from taking control. We watched Arya worm that out of Sansa in their discussion about power in their mother's rooms. The whole discussion of "you'll need their support if Jon doesn't come back" scene. Arya says, "You're thinking it right now. You don't want to be, but the thought just won't go away."

At least that is my take on it. For what it is worth...

I know right! Love the writing / the manipulation or influencing of the audience / reader ... we like that guy who coldly shoved Bran out if the tower window to his death. And we love the comic ability of Bronn.

However, I was all for the dragon, Denaries. LOL ... such an intense Ep! Eastwatch was good but wow this one was amazing. Cersei is so easy to hate. And now she's up the duff, she has Jamie wrapped around her little finger! And ugh Little Finger - if he survives it will be a hard pill to swallow. Hes such an evil manipulator - I so hope Bran and Arya will be his end.

Yeah Arya & Sansa .. ooh sibling rivalry, old irritants between them raising their ugly heads - when they should be unified and 100% behind Jon. I so wanted Sam to let Gilly finish reading that page!!!!! Surely this has to come out SOON ... maybe he'll get to borrow a dragon to fight the WWs. Oooh roll on next Monday!

Davos suggested it, so it is on the radar. And we have seen Jon and Drogon interact well together, which is a bit promising. It yet may happen.

But we know that Jon, like Viserys, while being a Targaryen does not posses the "Dragon" blood of Daenerys, who is seemingly immune to fire. His hand was burned when he threw the lantern at the WW when saving Mormont at the wall, unlike hers when she spilled the fire pit at the Dothraki Kahls. So would he be able to ride one?

Which, of course makes the possibility that Tyrion is a Targaryen rumor somewhat more plausible, though unlikely in GRRM's world of "Kill the fan favorite Eddard" philosophy rather than "Imp hated by his father was not REALLY a Lannister and good guys always win!" dreck he tends to eschew.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see...
