Me...meh. Thursday, so week nearly done. On the down-side, back to the periodontist today to find out if I'm gonna have to have surgery, so that's not fun.

Got Monday off on the up-side, but on the other hand it's so that I can get movers in to take the stuff I want to keep out of my uncle's flat to put it in storage.

Meh.

I hope you get good news today, Av. Good luck at the periodontist.

Not a terrible Thursday so far except for more hurricane preparations.

Thankfully Irma continues to track easterly and is now firmly projected to run up the east coast. It does reduce the threat to me but 2 of my sisters and their families live on the east coast so now I'm concerned about them.

I got a new work laptop and they were doing the file transfer remotely today. All things considered, it turned out well...and I got to read while the transfer was taking place!

It's a matter of finding the balance between trying to avoid giving advice that I wouldn't take, and admitting that I am often terrible at giving myself advice, especially when it involves spending money on non-essential stuff. I probably wouldn't see a band if the trip involved an overnight and the resulting costs. One of the main reasons I didn't see the last show I wanted to see was that I was afraid of getting stuck there after the trains stopped running. This was in the middle of the very expensive dental surgery I'm still going through, so I couldn't justify the cost, or maybe that was just an excuse. The cost would have been negligible next to what I've already incurred, so while there's something to be said for Being Responsible, I wish I'd gone. If I had gone, I probably wouldn't be focused on the cost as much as 'that was a really great show, I'm glad I went'.

So on that note, good luck with your dental stuff. Dental stuff sucks.

Our corporate mothership was closed today due to Irma. I hope it misses your family and friends and whatnot.

Well, news was good, looks like I won't need the surgery after all, for which I am very glad. Otherwise, Friday, hooray.

And Monday off, kinda ok, but then a week off from the 25, so that's great. Very Happy

(And then I still have 11 days of leave left that I have to use before the end of the year after that, otherwise I'll lose them.)

Great news, Av. No surgery is a good thing.

Depending upon what happens with Hurricane Irma over the weekend I may be MIA for a while thanks to no electricity and internet.
Also all City of Tampa employees are required to serve as damage assessors directly after the storm and may be required to stay for as much as 3 days in a command center while driving around the city identifying locations that need repair. Not looking forward to that possibility but we do what we must.

I will try to keep posting throughout. Smile

Be safe, TOM. Hoping you, yours, and dAN's (Chervil moved away from the Tampa Bay area, nu?) are prepared and hunkered down.

Three month leukemia update.

My hematologist has been watching my blood test draws with the same concerns I have. While my WBC and platelet numbers had dropped by about 50% midway through treatment, they have been hovering around that same point for the last month and a half. However, the three month draw has additional hematological tests, which look at something called BCR ABL. A reading of 0.00 means no leukemia. When I was diagnosed, my BCR ABL was 0.30. My three month test came back at 0.01, basically as low as one can get, and not be in remission. Baruch HaShem!

This past week I have shown signs and started treatment for a bladder infection. My hematologist is guessing that this may have been coming on for a while, and that may have affected the CBC counts. Hopefully once I complete my course of antibiotics, we'll start seeing drops in the WBC and platelets again.

With much gratitude for modern medicine, and sincere thanks for y'all's prayers and healing vibes.

10 pm on Sunday. Power is fluctuating but still on. Hurricane will be passing our home in the next couple of hours. No sleep until early tomorrow. Sad

I'm here. We survived Irma. No power in our neighborhood though. May be some time before its restored.
Quite a rough ride but our house held together, no damage.

Today I am feeling grateful.

Late last night my wife and I were lying in bed, trying to sleep.

No electricity, hot, humid, dank and literally impossible to get comfortable.

Then around 11 pm...THE POWER CAME BACK ON!!!!!!

There was much rejoicing in the Cummins household to be sure.

Today I feel renewed. What a difference electricity makes. Smile

Having the power back on... in the midst of the heat and humidity and sleeplessness - oh, yeah!

Hey you guys, checkin' in... I've had a wacky couple of weeks.
My hubby's considering looking into a position that would involve major changes for our family...
(mind you, not even considering applying for it; at the "considering looking in to it.")
Anyway, I, being the sort of person who I am, have been freaking out about it.
Ahh, well.

On the plus side, school started up, and so I've been doing Creative Writing with the kids.
It is... sort of working!
...and it gives me an excuse to find out what I can learn from other people about writing...
(through things they wrote, of course!)
Because then I can teach the munchkins things that aren't just my own opinions, and various disconnected ideas I've cooked up.

Also, I'm excited about seeing people back around the Watch.
Wave
Orlion, balon!, StevieG, Skyweir, Damelon, caamora dropping in... who else?
(sorry, Murrin... I don't know whether you're returning or have been around, but just focusing on other subforums)

Yeah, the whole idea of wooden houses is weird to me. Housing here is brick, and that's just the way it is.

Only "informal" housing (shacks and squatter camps, right?) isn't, and that's made from whatever is available, from corrugated iron to pallets and scrap metal.
