Absolutely Kizza - there was always an element of simple thuggery (and criminal money gathering) tied into the strong feelings of national identity and religious schism behind the Troubles. We have seen elsewhere how the latter can fester under the surface for decades; NI is no different.

Its almost the weekend, and by saturday afternoon we will have a house full of family.
So there will be no PS4 games, or long afternoon naps or books read in isolation.... I will be in the garden, "gardening" and only coming in for the odd cup of tea and to change the music.

Good and Evil Last night after I was looking to provoke a discussion about Jerusalem my wife asked me ... "When you talk about Trump don't you feel like you are bullying the village idiot?", and so the conversation turned to what we would be having for lunch this Christmas...

Have a good weekend and be safe.

I have not observed any trouble. What is the nature of the problem?

Sorry. Must have been a momentary WiFi issue at my end. Just got a 404 message. All good now.

Southern hemisphere Xmas lunch at mine we have at least agreed on the standard retro prawn cocktail for starters. Once a year prawn cocktail... Love it.
The mains will be seafood on the bbq...... = shellfish with a couple of salads.
The desert will be either some pud or fruit with the lot. usually a pavlova? Grandma thinks hot pud is required.... an old country thing. It will see us all off for an afternoon snooze. Smile

Theresa May has apparently done the impossible and squared the circle of the Irish boarder question allowing the Brexit talks to progress to the next - trade orientated - stage of the negotiations. It was a fudge, no escaping it, but it was so essential to get to the trade talks that it had to be achieved no matter what the cost. The cost is that essentially she has promised a soft Brexit in all but name for the whole of the UK - the important point for the DUP on whom she is dependent - and ensured the Republic of Ireland get the frictionless boarder that they demanded in order not to veto any future deal on trade being struck. Hard Brexiteer's amongst her own government, party and general public who voted for Brexit will not be happy. Staying closely aligned to the single market and customs union demands both a degree of free movement of labour and continued payments to Europe, anathema to hard Brexiteer's and totally against the spirit of what those who voted for Brexit (mainly on the single issue of immigration) voted for. Watch this space: I repeat, they will not.....be...... happy Exclamation

Hi Skyweir, Yes Trump can clearly fend for himself, but his behaviours would have most of us judging him on untenable ground... I see three women have aired sexual misconduct allegations against him overnight, (Well, Clinton did have the Lewinski scenario.....) and also he seems more determined to be the chief of World Police when I would rather he concentrated on world peace.

I agree Peter has the whole XMas goose and trimmings on song! I am looking forward to ours, pulling apart crackers and insisting on wearing paper hats for photos ha!

On the Irish border and Brexits "human rights", import/export et al implications, we now have the Unionists and Nationalists rubbing each others noses in it (Brexit) so there has been a fresh maze layered over that quagmire.

My wife has developed a cocktail to spring on the family when they arrive on Christmas morning. Nothing too strong, she has christened it the Cornish Sunset and it goes as follows; a Martini (triangular cocktail) glass frozen for 10 mins in the freezer so it ices up on removal; two thirds fill with prosecco, add a double(ish) shot of Archers and a maraschino cherry (which will fall to the bottom of the glass). Drizzle in creme de cassis down the side of the glass so that it sinks to bottom and sits to about a third way up the glass. The effect will be the sun (cherry) setting in a pink sky on the horizon - and it has a sweet peachy flavour that works really well. I'm proud of it (on her behalf of course). Very Happy

Cocktails can be dangerous Skyweir; I've had a few that you would struggle to get two of down and still be in a fit state for dinner! Wink

Ok think today ...

Well Im out of home at the moment looking after an insulin dependent diabetic kitty .. lol .. he's gorgeous. But its been horrible hot in these here parts .. <mmm>

So they have a great home from a security point of view - well its not perfect but they have these awesome security blinds - which are charged from the solar panels on the roof. Nice.

So cos its been hot I've had the windows open and at night especially to cool the house down. All good you say .. aye all good

Two nights ago I was sitting in the dark (as you do) and I heard the noise of a screen being pushed. Ahh shit I thought to me hot and bothered self .. someones trying to break in!

So I get up go down to "my bedroom" and slam doors and make A LOT of noise to startle would be intruders. It works - I walk out the front door slamming the screen (to make more noise) and I hear the pitter patter of feet that do not belong in this garden. I hear the shuffle of body/bodies pushing through the shrubbery and I yell out after them. Can see nothing its pitch black and yeah ... remember night.

I hear feet hitting the pavement and taking off in a northerly direction away from the house and down the street.

Little buggers!! Got the heart racing up and adrenal kicked in as you would hope.

The next day I told the immediate neighbours.

Crisis averted.

I have a default policy that when I stay in a clients home I do not answer the phone - ever. I hate it 1 - and 2 theres no need they have answering machines to collect messages.

So after the attempted break-in the owners ask to call me - so I pick up the phone, all good. Today I got a text asking to call again and I wasn't home. When I do get home - after a coulee of hours the phone ring(Saturday). Strange I thought - he said that there had been some malicious malware that presents a risk to Telstra but it could be addressed by me going to my computer and following a few steps.

mmm hmmm .. you're thinking .. yep me too.

so I went to my computer and he slowly spelled out a URL address. Instead of entering the URL - I opened up a google link and entered the address he wanted me to go to .. and yep .. multiple links about this "malicious malware" through teamviewer.com showed up. I immediately hung up on him and reported the incident by email to the relevant government department.

The caller rang another three times and on the last call - I picked up the phone - and told him I have reported the call and hung up. Of course before I hung up he denied any fraudulent activity, (as they always do).

But the whole thing was very stressful .. these callers are pushy and dominate the conversation - actually it was that that tipped me off to a the whole weirdness.

Grrrrr...

I hate tele sales pitches - they must be trained to dominate and influence the direction of conversation... *shudders* Id far rather deal with stupid kids trying to knock over the house.

Feeling annoyed at all this stupid shit Sad
