Well. Right. My expectations were not too high, since I'm no fan of SRD's Last Chrons. I sort of enjoyed his last two novellas, and Seventh Decimate seems like a continuation, in a certain way.

Bifalt is still a problematic character to me, too stuck in his habits when e'one can see there are better choices to make.

It's a fast and easy read. Not too deep.

👍

Ill pick it up some time in my travels but not gonna rush out and get it. Though I am intrigued to read it and see for myself now. Seems like not his best yet 🤷‍♀️

The Subtle Knife

Philip Pullman, a reread. This was my favorite of the three HDM, I'm curious how it holds up after many years.

Prince Lestat, most recent of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.

I sorta lost interest in these around "Pandora" (with the exception of Blood and Gold), but I'm quite enjoying it actually.

The Furthest Station, a Rivers of London novella that fits in between two other books. (Seriously, recommend these, they're hilarious.)

Also picked up Book 7 of the series, which will be next.

i'm not actually reading any SF/Fantasy right now! Shocked

but you all probably know I split my reading time between crime/detective material and sf/fantasy. i'm on a detective thing right now but the most recent sf/fantasy I listened to on audible were King's Dark Tower series, then The Expanse.

I highly recommend listening to the expanse series on audio...the reader, Jefferson Mays is just extraordinary!!
i'm thinking, since J brought up a possible plot hole in The Gap (in another thread) that I may listen to that as soon as i'm finished with the last 3 jack reacher books.

Enjoyed it as always, but too short.

Busy on A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, book 1 of the "All Souls" trilogy.

I've been a fan of the latest books. Prince Lestat and The Realms of Atlantis. I literally couldn't believe some of the plot elements Anne Rice has introduced - things I never dreamed would be in the Vampire Chronicles, like Spoiler:
ALIENS!!!

I have the new book (Blood Communion) but haven't read it yet. No time right now.

One thing I am really hoping to see is Spoiler:
the death of FREAKING ROSHAMANDES!
How idiotic that Lestat allows that situation to fester when anyone with half a brain should realize what is going to happen (again).

Haven't read either of those new ones, but generally feel they go up and down. (Didn't like Tale of the Body Thief at all for example.)

I'll read them if I find them 2nd hand, but not going out looking for them any more.

I just read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor.
Kudos for her highly imaginative creatures, the Chimaera. I loved them. But beyond that, not much else to recommend it. In the end I feel kind of gypped, plot-wise, and I didn't care for the overuse of the word "frissons", and in the end it's just another Twilight. I won't be reading the further books in the saga.

So now I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and loving every minute.

I really wanted to find a new epic saga to keep me engaged for several thousand pages, but the search continues...
