It sure is, Mordant's Need was the first Non-Covenant Donaldson series that I read, and it helped hook me in on all the others...

I still need to find my copy of DoR, Avatar, so I'm not ignoring you...yet Razz It's probably still at the old apartment... either way, I'm sure it's American, which could be the difference... and if I recall correctly, it's published be Del Rey... will have actual specifics within the week...

The deal with Gilden-Fire -- somebody correct me if I'm misremembering -- is that a specialty publisher asked SRD for any unpublished/outtake type stuff from the Chrons, for a limited-run publication for, oh, I forget why now, and in a weak moment he gave them Gilden-Fire. And then the Sci-Fi Book Club bought it from *them* and published it. So yes, it was a standalone "book" at one point. But then SRD included it in "Daughter of Regals," to sort of re-take control of the thing. He may then have had it deleted it from subsequent editions -- my memory of that part is muddled -- but I know I read Gilden-Fire in "Daughter of Regals", and I do believe that my paperback copy of "Daughter of Regals" includes it. I'll have to check when I get home.

Short? I bet the 4 "Man Who" books are shorter than the 2 "Mordants Need" books are.

Yeah but they're not a fairy tale for grown ups. Very Happy (If that's what any of us are.)

My paperback US copy of DoR has Gildenfire. I didn't think it was possible to have an edition of DoR that did *NOT* include Gildenfire. That's interesting to know.

Sorry for the confusion that ensued ...

LOL Nothing to be sorry for.

I love my standalone Gilden-Fire...it has the same cover art as my 1st chrons, and all but 1 of my second...the set with the backdrop of the land, and the circle of some detail...the Watch, Hotash Slay, etc. The best covers of any set IMO.

I've read everything except three of the Man Who books and Gilden-Fire (I skipped it when I was reading DoR because I hadn't finished TCTC1 yet). I also read three of the essays that SRD has on his website.

Wonderful. Absolutely 100% irrelevant to Fire Daughter's original comment about the SRD books she has yet to read, however. But hey, it seems to be 'disagree with dAN no matter what he says day', so carry on......

In dAN's defense, Mordant's Need is certainly not short.

Let's see...

I've read all the Chronicles books including Gilden Fire, both volumes of Mordant's Need, both short stories collections (if there are two, I'm not sure at the moment), the first two in the Gap series.

I haven't read any of the Detective novels, but one of them is available at my library and I've toyed with the idea of checking it out. I'm not sure which one it is, though. Not the first one, I know that.
