Of these, I've only read a few of the Pern books but must have either missed the weird stuff or been too young to notice. A couple of them sound interesting, though... in a sick way.

The Pern books are the only ones I've even heard of, let alone read. And like you, I don't remember any of that. Of course, I never followed the series with any sort of devotion...just read them as I found them, not in any sort of order.
Think the only one I have is the prequel, First Fall, or First Landing, or something like that. Tend to prefer her other books usually.

I've seen a few on the shelves, but never read any. Not even Pern. Is the fact that they're all written by women a reflection on whoever compiled this list? Or is it more indicative of the type of fantasy currently being written by women? Is there fantasy currently being written by women that's not soft-core porn? _________________ We are not required to save the world. Hey, I didn't come up with the title. I would've used "perturbating." _________________ "It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Syl,
I understand. It's just that "wronger" is poor usage and makes that title sound incredibly clunky. But then if the author is defending "Twilight" it shouldn't really surprise me. _________________ "Futility is the defining characteristic of life. Pain is proof of existence" - Thomas Covenant |

Wow. Eye-opening to someone who has read none of these, although Pern has been urged upon him repeatedly. Interestingly, the link provided at the end of the the article section about Pern includes a pronunciation guide that flatly contradicts how we've been told that a certain name is pronounced. _________________ Love prevails.

Aside from McCafferty the rest are hacks who should have been classified as soft porn, weirdness or romance novels...this bugger really went fishing _________________ "The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all previous centuries of it's existence."~Nikola Tesla

RTA. It's a blog, and they're not defending Twilight. The people at io9 usually do a pretty good job, so I'm almost certain the misuse is intentional, along the lines of, "He don't speak English good like we do" (and using an almost slang definition of 'wrong' along the lines of 'messed up'). 'More wrong,' would be boring, wouldn't imply a sense of snark/offness, and it wouldn't give a very good idea what the subject is. You have to keep in mind the intended audience. A good title gives an idea of the subject without completely giving it away, piques interest, and draws the reader in (and everybody loves a little Twilight bashing). Considering the venue, I thought it was successful.
On the subject of women, I think it's more common for women writing this kind of fiction to be published. I imagine men write more of it (hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those authors are really men), but it comes off pervy from a dude. From a woman, though, it can be called 'erotic.' If you think about it, that's kind of Twilight in a nutshell.
(though whoever put that together has probably never seen a Donnas concert) _________________ "It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. Murrin, thanks for the link to the list of female fantasy authors. I've read books by several of them, altho typically not the specific books cited. Looks like I need to get busy... _________________

No, I'll pass on that. While it turns out that Murrin was right about how McCaffrey says that name, I have said elsewhere that the Watcher in question has the right to pronounce the name as she chooses when she applies it to herself.
