Well yeah, but it's really just earth/humans. I mean, building a future earth society is good and all, but but the foundation is already there. All your work up to the present day is done for you. Wink

Thanks to all for the thoughtful replies. I've started the first Malazan book. Boy, this author just drops you right into the cauldron, doesn't he? i'm fairly confused, but trust that I will achieve clarity through perseverance.

We have a forum for it. Very Happy Enjoy. (Personally, I found book 1 confusing as well. It starts to clear up in another book or 2 or 3, or you can read Night of Knives which is sorta a prequel to GotM.) Wink

Though not a huge fan of the Gap Series (I still haven't finished the last book Hide ), I'd recommend The Culture series by Iain M. Banks to anyone who likes large-scale sci-fi. Although the books aren't directly connected, they all take place in the same universe, involve the same organisations and reference the same events. Start with any of these three and if you like them try some of the rest:
    - Consider Phlebas

    - Use of Weapons

    - The Player of Games
