Awesome Very Happy

I'm currently most inclined towards this idea, though I can try another one if anyone prefers so:
Effaeldm wrote:
My personal favorite is one Lovecraft inspired, though knowing the source won't be necessary. Based around a place filled with "normal" people, the idea is for each player to play a creature from another reality who tries to make people go off the rails/understand the other kind of reality (depending on the point of view).

What needs to be done to get it started?

I hope a few more people may join, but I think getting it started might be for the better to get some attention. I guess a sub-forum is something to ask Av about, right? Or is it too early for that? Perhaps an own thread first?

I'd say start a thread here. We can work out at least a couple details, and see who signs on. If it looks like it'll fly, Av can give you a subforum.

Lovecraftian could be interesting. Agree with Fist, you should put something together with some ideas of what you want to do, let people say if they're interested.

Hmm... It would be interesting playing a game where none of the player characters can be good guys (since they're all bringing Lovecraftian horrors into the game world). Break some people out of their usual modes.

Inferno just never appealed to me. And it's gone now, anyway.

Yes, moved off to that "you're not allowed to see what you're signing up for until you sign up for it" forum.

I didn't realise it had gone there, actually. When the forum was archived I assumed that meant it was over.

Well anyway, I know my usual mode annoys you, and Inferno is a good opportunity to see me being unusual. Very Happy I'm having a really great time, too!

Followed the advice, started a thread, posted some thoughts.

Maybe you kept this in mind, but it's not like Lovecraftian horrors are all bent on chasing and killing people or something like that. Even if that's the result Twisted Evil Later stories, mostly not by Lovecraft himself, often lean towards that, however, Lovecraft himself depicted more of a generally careless or unclear behaviour, and morals that look more like grey, but are actually more of the "blue and orange" kind, rather than dark and purposefully malevolent. Also it varied on specific ones and different situations. I think I'm going to allow the players themselves some choice, though recommending leaning towards such area. Also I think that I'm going to "help" with that as well, intentions or not Twisted Evil Just like in the books, you can't always get what you want.

And thank you for touching this subject, very useful direction of thoughts to do this properly, updated the game thread with more information.

As a Gator fan
Morals of Blue and Orange
Suit me perfectly

But to play this game
Would still give me a case of
Values dissonance

Never played before
Always stood on the sidelines
Did commentary...

Happily kibbitz
Comment with nothing at stake?
Yes, I will do that!

I've only read a little. You might try the graphic novel adaptations by I Culbard - they preserve the story while losing the worst of the prose and most of the racism.

You seriously don't know what you're missing Smile

However, no knowledge required to play, you'll get the necessary information right here, in the same way as with any game not based on specific books.

But if you'd like to read any, I can recommend a lot Very Happy Would you like something on the really unnerving side, or better something lighter?

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe this might help. However, I find his stories in their full written form very good, though various in that regard. The issue of racism is a separate topic for discussion, but just to state my opinion - Lovecraft learned and changed. And observing this change provides additional understanding for his stories and characters - and gives hope and an example on how a person with initially racist views can come to understand better what he despised and hated.
