Bought a six pack the other night, put it in my beer fridge and had one last night to start Thursday Night Football. Wow... love this beer. Pours rich and black. No lacing or very little. Chocolate but not overly chocolate, coffee, chili and sweet vanilla but then also the peppers (Cayenne?) and nutmeg (the peppers and nutmeg were not strong and tended to be on the finish.) I thought they got the balance on this perfectly. Smile[/quote]

Sounds good. I light cool pale ales as well. I also like cold pilsners.

I recently caught a deal on a couple of six packs of Monday Night brewing Blood Orange double IPA. A really good beer!!

That sounds good right now, though it's definitely a summer thing, and it's definitely not summer here. Tempted anyway, even though my favorite isn't available at this time of year.

Sierra Nevada Summerfest. There's nothing really fancy or unique about it, but it hits the spot after working a long summer day in a warehouse with no AC.

I rarely drink beer during the colder months, but it does sound good right now.

😊

Yeah Beer is perfect in summer. A nice stout in winter, or better yet a chocolate stout.
Supposed to be good for you too.

A curry and a beer are great companion any time of the year. But I dont like them too spucy hot these days 😏

Love a good chocolate stout, but also burn out on them pretty quickly, so usually only have one or two per year.

I'd forgotten until I clicked on this thread, but now I still want Pilsner. Any recommendations? I know my local store has two options - one a locally brewed German-style, the other an imported Czech-style. Can't remember the names beyond that. I think the one I buy during the summer (which isn't available right now) is Czech-style, but not sure what the difference is. Perhaps I will go on a quest after work. A quest ending in beer seems like an appropriate way to end this week.

Haha, yes it does.

Back when the GF used to drink, she was fond of Pilsner Urquell, which is a Czech pilsner.

Doesn't appear to be readily available here, but I'll keep an eye out.

Pilsner Urquell is decent, a little hoppier than Summerfest and not as crisp. Cat Cat

Ive been drinking more local beers that you wont find anywhere else. I recommend that to everyone!!

A double IPA from Jailhouse brewing that was absolutely outstanding. They only made 30 cases so I got two 4-packs. All gone now (sadface)

I've also been trying some sours. Most I just don't like but I found a few that I liked.

So recommendations:

Sweetwater brewing has some great beers and I think they are now national and you can get them in most places.

http://sweetwaterbrew.com/brews/

Sweetwater IPA is a basic IPA but if you can catch it on tap, its absolutely delicious!!!

I'm currently drinking a Sweetwater "Ground Score" and sadly its my last one... I will need to make a trip to the store!!

Quote:
We've teamed up with Relix and Kyle Hollingsworth to bring you a haze-bomb of a brew: Ground Score IPA. This bad boy's packed with El Dorado, Citra, Amarillo, and Idaho 7 hops that will sure hit your tastebuds with a hell of a lot of flavor. At a 7.1% ABV, Ground Score IPA is big, bold, and drinkable beer.

Sours - Well its a beer that is intentionally brewed to be sour and tart. They are aged in different ways to get different tastes. Im probably not the best person to answer how they brew these. Zarathusta might be able to give you more information on the how.

One that I have been drinking is below that is just crazy good!!!
2 Year Sentence Sour - Flanders Red Ale
6% ABV
10 IBU

A red ale aged in port wine barrels for 2 years with a mixed culture of bacteria and yeast. 2 year sentence was then blended and rested on cherries for 6 months. The finished product is oaky, dry, and fruity with a pleasant acidity.
