What are shows that you enjoyed watching years ago, and some time later you watch them again and find that you do not like them as much?

For me:
The Goodies. Monty Python without the wit. I watched it again recently, and found the show to be too childish, and reliant on postmodern humour.

The Kenny Everett Show. Too much character comedy and not funny.

I second those, absoluetly.

Also, I'd go for:

Original Battlestar Galactica. The word Daggit still makes my stomach churn.

Battle for the Planets (I knew it as G-Force). One word: gay.

Well...if we can go with childhood shows...

The original Land of the Lost. I loved that show during its original run. Now when I look back on it...the Sleestacks are no longer as terrifying.

And the original b&w Dark Shadows. I had to run home from school to watch it. Now, it is still a guilty pleasure but neither Hyperception nor Beorn understand why I love it.

How about Forever Knight? Back when it was on in the late 80's and early 90's I'd stay up to watch the sexy vampire Nicholas Knight fight crime and wrestle with his conscience, as well as endeavor to find a way to become mortal once again.

I received Seasons 1 & 2 for Christmas, and am watching them now and again. Unfortunately I don't find them quite as gripping as I once did. For one thing, the special effects leave something to be desired. And perhaps I am not quite as obsessed with vampires as I once was. Very Happy

I've found that very, very few TV shows age well. I've started re-watching The PJs, and they haven't stood up (and it's on;y 8 or 9 years old). Miami Vice, depending on the episode is nearly unwatchable. I've been pleasantly surprised with how well Magnum, P.I. has held up, but it's the exception.

I was never a fan of Happy Days nor Lavern and Shirley eventhough they took place in Wisconsin (grew up there). But then again I guess they were somewhere in Milwaukee and most Wis folks consider that city a part of Illinois. Wink Now, That 70's Show was one of my favs cause they represented my ages and angst exactually, and I also bet that show will age well.

Anyway, it seems to me most comedies, with a few exceptions, do age well from decade to decade. It's the dramas that suffer. I suppose semi-dramadies like Magnum and Rockford Files would be exceptions, too...I love both those shows.

Interesting idea. But is it the show that is nw dated and somehow less than it was, or is it we who have changed significantly enough that these shows no longer capture our fancy as they used to? Hmmmm....

WKRP is still brilliant. Seinfeld isn't. Magnum is, Miami Vice isn't.

Can't explain it, it just is.

I still love Seinfeld.

One show aged for me very quickly (like within one year of finding it funny the first time): Red Dwarf. And Cat was never funny.

It's still a guilty pleasure for me, though. Wink

And I have to disagree with Montressor. . . Red Dwarf doesn't diminish in quality, at least as far as I am concerned. Smile

I love Forever Knight! I really do love it. I watch it with others like myself when I find them, because we don't point out the guide wires.

Yeah. . . the guide wires are pretty bad, but I think Geraint Wyn Davies is an excellent actor. Apparently he does a lot of Shakespeare these days. And is still as hot as ever. Very Happy

I'd have to look and see. . . obviously my attention was focused on Mr. Davies. Wink

Mash. Used to be I loved watching the reruns over and over, thought it was hysterical. Now I can't stand the thought of it.

Have you ever seen Lexx? It was another show to come out of Canada. When the Sci-Fi channel bought it, the guy who played La Croix got a role playing a similar character.
