That version of The Rain Song is glorious. It pains me that it (and Since I've Been Loving You) can't appear on my list.

Coda is not a bad album. In fact, I think it's (bizarrely) a better album than In Through the Out Door. Walter's Walk is a great groove, and could easily replace Wearing & Tearing as my favorite from the album.

Yes, it's a great version and I think JPJ is playing a mellotron by the sound of it (love the sound of those things).

I just haven't heard Coda that much, so don't know how to compare it to ITTOD very well. ITTOD is a patchy album, but certainly has its moments.

Speaking of TSRTS, I saw the movie way back in college, and I always remembered it having a version of Since I've Been Loving You in it. Am I nuts? I know it's not on the album. Are there any songs in the movie but not on the album?

The movie and the soundtrack used to not have the same songs. I think that's been rectified in recent years and they now match.

What was great about Zeppelin for me was that they'd find inspiration in many different styles of music, but put their own "stamp" on things in a very listenable, catchy way.

Led Zeppelin did a lot of great covers.. I've always loved this one:

GALLOWS POLE
(Traditional)

Hangman hangman hold it a little while
Think I see my friends coming
Riding a many mile.
Friends did you get some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me my dear friends
To keep me from the Gallows Pole?
What did you bring me to keep me from the Gallows Pole?
I couldn't get no silver I couldn't get no gold
You know that we're too damn poor
To keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming,
Riding a many mile.
Brother, did you get me some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my brother,
To keep me from the Gallows Pole?
Brother, I brought you some silver,
I brought a little gold,
I brought a little of ev'ry thing
To keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Yes, I brought you to keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Hangman, hangman, turn your head awhile,
I think I see my sister coming,
Riding a many mile, mile, mile.
Sister, I implore you, take him by the hand,
Take him to some shady bower,
Save me from the wrath of this man,
Please take him,
Save me from the wrath of this man, man.
Hangman, hangman, upon your face a smile,
Pray tell me that I'm free to ride,
Ride for many mile, mile, mile.
Oh, yes, you got a fine sister,
She warmed my blood from cold,
Brought my blood to boiling hot
To keep you from the Gallows Pole,
Your brother brought me silver,
Your sister warmed my soul,
But now I laugh and pull so hard
And see you swinging on the Gallows Pole
Keep-a-swingin'!
Swingin' on the gallows pole!

That was an enjoyable video, Vader! I found it interesting that Jimmy Page was wanting to break the cardinal rule of "never speed up" to give the song an accelerated feel as the ending approached. He seemed to enjoy the memories with that song.

Since my wife bought me a record player at Christmas, I broke out all my Albums which stored remarkably well. None are warped and all are 100% scratch free. I have a ton of Zeppelin as well as Beatles, Deep Purple, Stones, Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Skynyrd, well I could go on but you get it... got a lot of good solid classic rock.

Except for having to keep changing albums and turning them over every few songs (spoiled on CD's and Sonos), I find the sound to be very rich on vinyl and just the sound of the slight click as it switched to the next song was very satisfying. (yeah I know that sounds cheesy)

Funny as I was listening to Houses of the Holy, it brought back a memory of a cassette I made from a Saturday morning of classics on 96 rock. As one song finished (No Quarter), in my head another song (not on this album) was going off in my head because it came next on my Cassette..... crazy how memories are.

Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" always segues into "When Doves Cry".

Led Zep's greatness endures, and I'm grateful for the many tribute bands that are around to remind us of the stellar LZ legacy. Here's Zepparella performing the Led Zeppelin arrangement of "When The Levee Breaks":

Awesome! However ... (leave it to me to find something negative to say about 4 attractive women doing a perfectly adequate cover of Led Zeppelin) ... that bass drum! Dear god, you can't play Levee without an epic drum sound, especially the bass drum. It sounds like cardboard or broken speakers. I know it seems like a minor complaint, but the drums are the very first sound you hear, driving the entire song. Also, the bass drum is supposed to be playing double beats, not single. Makes a big difference.

The comments, as usual, are pretty fun. "None of them are as pretty as Plant was." LOL.

Thanks for the link!

You're right, of curse, about the double note of the kick drum being missing in Zepparella's version, Zar. I liked the harmonica and guitar playing on their version, all the same. Glad you enjoyed the link!

Much agreed, StevieG, and I appreciate your input!

Heck, it's great to see Jimmy Page still thriving and enjoying life, and taking questions.

Heh, when I was 15, I loved the latest Zeppelin album, In Through thr Out Ddoor, and heard most of it on the radio. My mom knwew I liked it, so she got me the album for Christmas. I had never seen the album, or the plain brown wrapper that covered it. She got a l12" x 12" x 12" box and put the album up against the side; mkaking it effectively invisible.

It must have taken 10 minutes before I figured it out!
