A while back I accidentally ordered a 5kg bag of sugar. The only time I use sugar is half a spoonful on my breakfast cereal, so this bag will literally last me years at that rate.

So, I'm looking for some suggestions for things I can use all this sugar for. I don't generally cook, so I'm not sure myself. Ideas?

Do you ever make french toast, pancakes, or waffles? You can add up to a tablespoon of sugar to your batter if you do.

Get a razor blade, a straw and a mirror. Line the sugar up on the mirror and set the straw (cut short) and the razor blade next to the mirror. When a friend or family member comes home, offer them a line of the good stuff.

Make it into cubes and build a replica of the great pyramid.

Get a spray bottle and mist your face with water. Coat your face in a light dusting of sugar so that you sparkle. Go out and meet young girls and say you are a vampire.

Toss it in the bin if you don't cook because the last thing you want is to force yourself to eat 5kg of sugar...

I get your point Ananda, but I'm not intending to just force myself to eat all of it quickly; I'm just looking for ideas to vary up what I'm eating by using it a little more than I would otherwise. I'm fine with the bag sitting in my cupboard for a long time, just not on the "4-5 years" scale.

Empty it at your doorstep. Ants will flock to it. Capture them. You have converted carbs to protein.

wait... the glittering face thing is a brilliant idea! You could entice girls to lick you. Say, 'I'm so sweet, I taste of sugar, baby'. You said you worried about having reasons for approaching people. What better reason than to have strange girls lick you because they think you might be a vampire? And, the sugar doesn't all have to be on your face. You are welcome.

Sugar has a pretty long shelf life - just keep it in an airtight container and never worry about having to buy more.

You could put some in some of that tea you're always drinking Razz

I don't know what I would use it for. You might be able to use some of it in some homemade pancakes (I imagine there's some sugar, though not a whole lot).

But like Sorus said, if you got it stored properly it won't get worms.

Make some candied walnuts from time to time. Great on salads. Great snack. Don't burn the walnuts; don't burn the sugar.

Good recipe, horrible pic:

Toffee is pretty easy to make, and it uses quite a bit of sugar. I'll see if I can find the recipe I used to use... It also makes a nice holiday gift if you put it in a tin or something.

Edit: This seems similar to what I used to make. I'm not a big recipe-follower. I remember mine sometimes had a shot of espresso in it, no reason you couldn't do that here if you like coffee/mocha toffee.

Hmm, you know what, I could really go for some hard toffee. Been a long time since I've had it...

Well done, Sorus!

That toffee is really similar to a Passover treat I make, only the recipe uses brown sugar instead of white sugar. However, I see no reason why this toffee also couldn't be made for Passover. I may just add this to my Passover repertoire.

Murrin, if you're willing to learn how to bake, there are a lot of easy recipes people could share with you.

Out of curiosity, if you don't generally cook, how do you eat? Mostly eat out, or? We've talked a bit about the growing number of young people who can't/don't cook for themselves in another forum. Just curious how you got into that.

Frozen food. Throw in oven, wait 20 minutes, eat.

I usually use brown sugar when I make treacle toffee - which is also good, but won't help Murrin much since it almost always uses brown sugar.

I was sad to find that the one place in the city that sold bonfire toffee had closed; I will have to find a way to make my own next year.

I did quick meals sometimes when I was young. Mainly, though, it was things like a piece of tofu on bread with lettuce and stuff. I haven't been single or living on my own much in life, but when I was, I also found it a pain to do multiple dishes for a meal because you had to cook so much. It was impossible to cook just a little of this, a little of that and so. I ended up only cooking about 5 times a week then and mainly made single pot meals or rice and veggies type thing.

Mostly, though, I had some guy or friend that I cooked for and ate together with so that made it easier. Also, I always loved cooking and baking.

AB's marshmallows are supposedly really good, but I have never attempted them.

Thank you for that link, man. That'll be one of my next projects. Could I use maple instead of corn sirup (hard to get here).
