You got me confused there, then I found mark 4! Now I realise what you've all been talking about Very Happy

The gasman? I've known Kris since he was a teenager and used to come with his father, Barry, who was our then gas man. Barry found a new and young wife and now lives in Portugal. Kris took over the business. He comes once a year to service our boiler, and at other odd times when needed - like helping his partner (not marital) Brendan who is our plumber and was the apprentice of our former plumber! It's all in the family, see?

Anyway, when Kris came two years ago I was wearing my e-fest t-shirt and it turned out that he had read Chrons 1 & 2 but didn't know about 3. This year he had read 3 and enjoyed them, so I told him about the Novellas. During our after service coffee chat he was telling me about the Malazan novels, as well as discussing Chrons 3, so I jumped in and got the first Fallen book on the kindle - and was hooked.

Yes Av, Deadhouse Landing is now available - in book form (I saw one at Waterstones) and for kindle. I shall get the kindle version, mainly because I have no room for more books - still have to find shelf space for the new Donaldson. It's a nuisance as I can't go back and forth in the book (or books) very easily on the kindle, and when a character appears who I can't remember but know he's been around before I have to use the phone to google! This second time around I'm getting much more out of the books having read the "history" in the Esslemont books. I find it a bit difficult to match the other books with the "Fallen" books - chronologically, but I find there are clues.

I don't get on the computer every day now - hard on the old eyes, but I'll get here as much as possible when I can. I need to keep up with things again.

Oh well. Next thread to hit 10K will be in Mallory's. We'd better work on that.

9,999 posts is the limit. We were going to find out what happened after, but Av & Murrin went and got all modly about it. Probably for the best. I think something bad does happen, but no one quite remembers what.

You should tell him about the Gap...

Oh, thanks Av. I didn't read the Korbal Broach/Bauchelain one, they didn't grab me somehow - or at least I hope they never will Eeek

I think the new one will shed a lot more light on the earlier years. I'm particularly curious to know more of Dassem Ultor.

Yes, I know there is an Erikson thread, but I can't remember enough to join in any arguments, and trying to find the bit you want on the kindle is a nightmare!

I seem to remember that Kris had read the Gap books. He hadn't read the "Man who" books though.

Good to be back

Speak for yourself. No holidays around here, and yet our retail workers still have to live through Black Friday, somehow.

I'd never really thought about Black Friday being a thing in places where Thanksgiving isn't celebrated.

Not as bad as it used to be (for better or for worse) due to more people shopping online.

I'd apologize, but I don't want to claim responsibility for the darn thing. Just glad that my job has shifted to where I will be filling orders for delivery instead of being on the front lines. Back when I was at Borders, Black Friday wasn't really a big thing - there'd be sales, but not the sort people lined up all night for. My first year in more mainstream retail, the day started with a guy attacking me because he thought I was trying to cut in line, when I was just trying to get in to work. The general level of craziness and people camping out all night to get that awesome deal on the thing they don't need or even particularly want has waned a bit - which is nice overall, but the overtime and hiring of extra employees is vanishing as a consequence.

You and me both. I shouldn't complain, since I do have tomorrow off, though I've had to work late the rest of the week to make up for it since paid holidays aren't a thing anymore. And my upstairs neighbors seem to be out of town, which is nice. They have a two-year-old boy who I've never actually seen, but I can tell you that his favorite hobbies are running and screaming, and he doesn't seem to have a bedtime.
