Saw this tonight and wow .. it ties all the threads of the previous films .. Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, Avengers,Thor, Black Panther, Captain America, Dr Strange etc.

It was quite a ride purely because the numbers of characters in the mix. Thanos was great imo ..

So its the long game and there is a 1 in 14 million possible future outcomes that they win. But we have to wait 2 years to find out .. how that plays out.

I enjoyed it .. lots of the same, great lines, plenty of action, some chills, laughs .. it was great Big Grin It was soo cool to see Black Panther and that crew again .. kinda gave me goosebumps

It has already surpassed $250 million in the domestic market, surpassing the previous leader The Force Awakens.

Worst part: probably that when the movie opens you think "did I miss the first 15 minutes of the film?". It wastes *zero* time on any sort of set-up and presumes that you are already caught up on the direct lead-up films.

Best part: the action and the one-liners (the Guardians still get all the best ones).

There are some issues with eg. expecting us to just accept Wanda and Vision's relationship despite having done barely any work to establish it in prior films (and similar with Quill/Gamora, who have been together a few years since GotGv2), but apart from that it does a good job of keeping true to the characters as established in their own films while juggling a massive cast.

Captain America got a bit shortchanged in the film, but presumably he'll be the lead in Avengers 4 - in fact Spoiler:
it's been observed pretty widely that the folks that died at the end were almost all the characters who will be carrying on in the MCU after Avengers 4, whereas the survivors are mostly the original Avengers cast who are coming to the end of their contracts. So, they get one last big hurrah, spending their final film saving the universe and bringing back the characters who'll get more stories afterwards.

Of course, the problem with that is they'll be undoing almost every death, making death look pretty cheap; there's a high chance they'll kill off other characters at the same time, though.

Would I be lost if I haven't seen ALL the lead-up films? I've seen both GotG, the first Avengers, the first Iron Man, Wonder Woman... and I think that's it.

You might want to watch Thor: Ragnarok, since IW opens with the immediate aftermath of that film's post-credits scene and it sets up what's going on with Thor and Hulk. Civil War could be worth it too.

(The first two Captain America films, Black Panther, and Spider-Man: Homecoming are just good films worth seeing on their own merits.)

(I realized Wonder Woman isn't part of the MCU. Don't shoot me, it's hard keeping it all straight.)

Agreed Sorus you should definitely binge watch all of these .. I think the movie would still be enjoyable but much more satisfying as you'll get more of the whys Big Grin

Spoiler:
its not that death is cheap .. the story line has been changed. reversing time is the only way the avengers will win and save the universe .. its that ONE in 14m of the possibilities were they WILL win. Its just that theyre spinning the story out over two movies. Its not really like .. boom your dead .. next scene boom .. your alive again. Its fuck we have no way to beat Thanos .. oh no there is only one way .. Dr Strange saw it .. and in seeing it he knew the only way was to surrender his infinity stone .. cos that was the scenario for that ONE possibility

Without spoiling the movie, I can discuss the plot line from the original Infinity War miniseries which came out...erm...when the heck did that come out? I had them (may still have them in a box somewhere) as comics so that must have been before 1993, when I stopped collecting. Anyway...as easy as it is to kill half the population of the universe (just a snap of the fingers), it is just as easy to reverse all those deaths--someone manages to get the gauntlet off Thanos' hand and reverses all the decisions he made, restoring all those people to life.

Clearly the movie doesn't follow that miniseries exactly because Thanos got the Stones from the Elders of the Universe who owned them (they had previously tried to use them to kill Galactus, thinking that his death would collapse the universe as it exists and jump-start a new one).

I concur with I'm Murrin, Sorus: Thor Ragnarok is probably the only "must see" movie to fill in the early plot holes for IW.

Spoiler:
I was thinking about that possibility when I considered that the remaining Avengers include Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, who seem the right ones to pick if you want to steal something.

Okay, that's next on my to-watch list. Thanks!

I saw Ragnarok very recently and it was a fun trip. But it left me on the wrong foot for Infinity War. Or the right foot, if you consider a sucker punch "right".

Spoiler:
Gosh, that movie was brutal. Definitely turned me off. Too much torture and thoughtless murder and Glen-and-Lucille stuff. It could no longer be called 'comic book violence' after a certain point.

Not may favorite.
