Y'mean people still game on computers?

I kid because I used to be all about it until it started becoming a crapshoot whether games would work on my computer, despite having all the requirements. You spend the first few hours after purchasing a game on downloading patches/updates, and hope it won't be one of those random things that for some reason just won't work, or have to launch in a special way that tricks it through the opening cinematic or something. Ugh....I hated it. So I went to stupid consoles. Which I like a lot better because you don't run the risk of everything being fine with the game, and yet it just doesn't want to work. But nowadays, it is returning to the glory days of downloading patches/updates for the first two hours.

God, I'm old.

Spent the last 4 days or so playing Subnautica, which Epic Games is giving away free until the 27th.

If you're into survival / crafting / building games, I must say this is good.

Also been playing Vampyr, an Assassin's Creed style action RPG which is not bad.

And started a new TW: Thrones of Britannia campaign today.

Damn steam sale...been playing AC Origins. Also just got Shadow of War at 70% off the definitive edition on Steam, which was too good a deal to pass up.

Then I saw it had nearly 100GB download size...downloaded it anyway though. Very Happy

Also picked up the Goldrush Anniversary Edition, to round out my Sierra Games collection (I think I have everything now except the PQ games which I don't want) and a couple others.

Now sitting on 85 Steam games, and 93 GOG games...Maybe I'll even play some of them one day... Very Happy

Have got several games over the holidays and because I joined PlayStation Plus. Here are my reviews:
Just Shapes and Beats on Steam: got it for my son who was super excited about it. He has finished it all a thousand times and is trying to get everything to the highest score possible.
Onrush: Driving game for free with PSPlus. LOTS of fun, and I only downloaded it because it was free. I usually don't enjoy driving games, but this one is a smash up other cars game with a few other hooks. It didn't sound like much, but it is lotsa fun.
Dreamfall Chapters: 3rd in a series of games. I played the first, The Longest Journey, and absolutely fell in love with it. When it came out, it was one of my favorite point and click adventure games of all time. Then Dreamfall came out, and I never got into it, which might have been because it had trouble on my computer at the time. Bought Dreamfall Chapters for cheap after realizing it was the third game after not really hearing anything about it. Loving it, but can't play around the kids due to the constant and incessant profanity. Especially when one of the characters is named Shitbot. I love it.
Ni No Kuni 2: I loved the first, but never quite finished it. I am enjoying the second quite a bit as well, and look forward to see where it is going.
Steep: Another game from PSPlus that I never would have downloaded if it wasn't free. Amazing game that feels a lot like Pilotwings for the 3DS, for some reason, but includes snowboarding and skiing and...y'know...winter sports. You can do events, and once you cross the finish line, it lets you continue on down the hill and take on the sites instead of immediately taking you to the next race. Love it.
Also got Portal Knights and Lego Worlds, which I have only tried a little of both. Portal Knights kept crashing on me, and Lego Worlds made me fall asleep, but I'll give them a try again sometime.

Pretty much finished Ni No Kuni 2, although I want to just finish a bit of post game nonsense. It wrapped up not making a lot of sense with the dumb story.

Now I'm playing The Witness, and have fallen in love with it. I would definitely recommend it to those people who liked the Myst games.
It is basically a puzzle game though and through. The initial setup didn't lure me with a lot of excitement, but the reviews have been especially positive. The creator said he wanted to create a game for those who like Gravity's Rainbow, which I've never read, but had recommended to me many times, and just feels a little pretentious to say. I also heard that the game is basically about 500+ maze puzzles. You have a starting point that is a circle, and you find your way to the end of each of these puzzles.
And it is indeed accurate that it is a lot of maze puzzles, but I've never been more fascinated with the puzzles in a game. After a while, you notice puzzles everywhere in the game, and it takes a while of going through basic ones to get the "language" of the puzzles. Puzzles build off of other puzzles, and with it being an open world game, for the most part, you can take them in any order, but until you know the "language" of the puzzle, many are unsolvable for a while.
As frustrating as the damn game is, it really is quite a fun game full of eureka moments, which is definitely something that pumps my mind's nads.

Yeah, I played that and I enjoyed it a lot. The puzzles built into the environment were a nice touch.

You should read this then. It may have some spoilers, and then again not.

I don't know if I'll ever "finish" it, but I'm glad I read about it so that I know better what to expect from it. Honestly, the puzzles are the best part, so I don't really care about any of the rest of them. I just prefer to occasionally feel like I "got it" and solve a puzzle. That carrot on a stick keeps me going.

For them as don't have it, The Witness is currently free from the Epic Games store until 18th April.

(Epic is giving away a free game every 2 weeks for this whole year, all you need is a (free) account with them. I already picked up Subnautica earlier this year. After Witness, the next planned free game is Transistor, a sci-fi rpg or something which I might get too. (I have skipped a bunch that weren't my style, but keeping an eye when I remember.)

Anyway, I've just started playing Yakuza 0, a prequel for cult console series Yakuza, finally making its way to PC. (The original first instalment is also out for PC (Yakuza Kiwami on PC), and apparently Yakuza 2 is also on its way.

There are 6 so far excluding the prequel, apparently they come out every year in Japan.

Only just started, and some weird Japanese idiosyncrasies and old fashioned stuff like only manual saves made at specific locations etc.

Also, insanely long (skippable) cut-scenes. It's apparently half action-adventure, half Japanese soap opera.

Looks promising though, and sorta reminds me of Sleeping Dogs a bit.

Well, quite enjoyed. In true Japanese style, almost everybody died, and those who didn't were traumatised. Very Happy

Playing AC Unity now.

Quite fun, and as I said, strangely addictive.

Playing Atom: RPG, a top down / isometric post-apocalyptic RPG, very reminiscent of the early Fallout Games (1 & 2) and Age of decadence.

So addicted to Kenshi right now. Not since Warband have I had a game grab me this completely.

This game is so indifferent to you as a player, that when you die, the world simulation just keeps on running. There's not even a game over message or anything.

Seriously impressed.

Can't stop playing...think I was up till 03h00 both Friday & Saturday. Very Happy

Very much enjoying playing Dragon Quest Builders 2. It's definitely a game where they took the right things from the first game and improved upon it. There are a couple little niggles, but overall a definitely improvement, and lots of fun.

Ok, I got distracted away from Dragon Quest Builders 2, and started playing Kingdom Hearts 3. Ummmmmmm....not sure what to say about it. I'm enjoying the action so much more than in the past as they give you so many fun ways to smash up the enemies. The problem with this game is the LONG FREAKING CUT SCENES that just never end. I've never complained about being given story bits before, but I've rarely played a game where I just wanted control of the character back so that I could have fun again. I'm constantly nodding off during this game. I like it, but give me the fun.
Played a bit of Elite Sniper 4 and enjoy it. I'll have to dive into that later, but I have too many long games to finish.

I've got that, but haven't installed it yet. Found out yesterday that the (indie) developer of Kenshi is a big fan of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Very Happy

Damn game is eating up my life. Very Happy

Yeah, I felt the same way about Horizon Zero Dawn. Just totally consumed within the game world, and while I didn't want to live there, it felt like I was to some degree. I think that game is the saddest I have been to finish. And my son also liked it so much he sucked out all the marrow of the game by platinuming it (which means he played through it on all skill difficulties and gathering all of the trophies that you can get on PlayStation for the game). He REALLY loved that game.

Haha, at least I don't have to share, although the GF is giving me plenty of stick about how much I'm playing at the moment.

Then I had to break the news that Bannerlord was releasing in 6 months...the only other game that has grabbed me this hard...she was not impressed. Very Happy

Just remind her of the fact that videogames keep you at home and out of the bars and other people's beds. And if you spent all your time with her while at home, she would end up getting sick of the sight of you. Videogames do build a healthy relationship, as frustrating as it is to have you home and not paying attention.
I've never used that bit of logic with my wife, but it occurred to me recently.
