Welp... Figured I had to start somewhere, and even though I think being called a newbie is rude, this is as good a place as any I suppose. Anyway... No need to say my name... It's already showing, but I would just like to start by asking:

Am I the only one terrified and not too happy about a movie being made out of these books? I don't think a movie made by ANYBODY could ever do them justice since most of the concepts in the story are abstract and too emotionally deep to ever be conveyed by simple actors.

Just my feeling, but I really would love to hear other opinions on this.

Hail Dee Nekura, welcome to Kevins Watch. Very Happy

I also am worried that no movie maker will be able to do justice to Thomas Covenant. I guess will have to wait and see.

Welcome, Dee!

There are several movie-related threads floating around on the Watch right now. Check out this one if you haven't, yet: http://kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5531&start=0

Many of us have reservations about how well TC will transfer to film.

Thank you for the very pleasant welcome. It's nice to find a message board where people can be decent... so very few of those.

Welcome, Dee Nekura! Hope you like it here.

I am anxious about the films, but one can only hope.

Welcome, Dee Nekura!

Personally, I'll be surprised if TC ever makes it to film.

Hi, Dee! This is a great place to be. Check out all of the other forums, too. I think you'll find a lot of like minds. My favorite book was The Power That Preserves. I love that Covenant finally starts to "get it" and quits acting like such a jerk and we get to see some of the good person inside. I also love the end-

"Ur-Lord Illender- yours is the power that preserves."

That line in the song made me bawl so hard I could hardly finish the book.

Anyway, welcome to a really terrific place.

Kym

White Gold Weilder without a doubt. There are just so many poignant scenes. Hamako's sacrifice; the reunion with Sunder and Hollian; Honniscrave's death and the rending of samadhi; Hollian's death, her re-birth, and the death of Caer-Caveral; Linden's meeting with Kevin and Covenant's Dead; Covenant's sacrifice; Linden's defeat of turiya and her healing of the Land.

Shocked There are just too many.

Greetings and welcome, Dee Nekura!

The movie is definitely a big question mark, but we can always hope that the apparently genuine passion the producers have for the books will translate into a passionate and reasonably faithful film adaptation.

I can't comment on Runes as I haven't read it yet, but of the other 6 books...The Illearth War and The One Tree both made such a powerful impact on me that I'd feel guilty choosing one over the other. TIW's tragic heroism and the doomed triumvirate of Troy, Elena and Covenant was like nothing I had ever read before (or since) in my life. And TOT's epic sea voyage to realms and great powers beyond the Land left me in awe.

Hi Folks,

Just joined here as well today and wanted to greet everyone.

I've been a huge fan of SRD's for many years. His only fault being that he cannot crank out a new book every week Rolling Eyes I seem to find that fault with many of my favorite authors ::sigh::

And for my favorite TC book.... I would honestly have to say Runes, which I just finished of course Smile I was extremely pleased with the detail and how well the story tied into the series without "stretching" your belief. The Linden Avery sequence tied in really well, and the cliffhanger at the end has me drooling for book 8.

If I could enter a Fall and get the whole series now, I would not be able to restrain myself Smile

Tom

P.S. Where's everyone getting the cool avatars? What is a poor non-artist to do?

Hail Tom! Welcome and well met my friend. Very Happy

Sorry I couldn't join you in chat earlier. My workplace condones surfing the internet while working, but instant messaging or chatting of any kind is a big no no. Confused

The avatars come from Edge, one of the members here. If you would like one just send him a PM and let him know. The rush has slowed down a little so he making you one shouldn't be too taxing for him. Wink

Be welcome here Tom. Welcome and true. Very Happy

Thank you for the welcome VS! I will have to find Edge and send a PM. My chat experience was best left alone... I fooled around with the colors and emoticons to get the feel of the interface. My only complaint is that I haven't found a way to enlarge the chat window.
