Heh Heh Down with Elena! I have to say that my dislike of Linden did go up and down depending on how she was behaving at any one time but I NEVER liked Elena, from the second she introduced herself to Covenant to the moment she called the spectre of Kevin.

I do agree about Amatin and Hollian as well, I had forgotten about them. I also didn't think too badly of Atiaran.

I don't blame the Gaddhi a bit. After all, he was hand-picked to be Kasreyn's puppet, and any Gaddhi who showed signs of behaving like a decent human being would quickly find himself out of a job. Kasreyn pulled his strings every step of the way.

Besides, 'Rant Absolain' is a brilliantly bizarre name. Gotta cut him some slack for that.

I rather agree with you about the Elohim, though — 'holier than thou' is the exact term wanted. I don't mind people who genuinely are holier than I am, but the last thing such people do is go around jawing about how holy they are. In particular, I wanted to give Chant and Infelice a good smack with the Two-by-Four of Law.

My favorite character was Mhoram, largely due to his humility. The reverse, then, is arrogance and bravado. The character I would dislike the most, then, would be Foul - he's the anti-Mhoram.

The Ravers - well, they're another story. They're like Ted Bundy, John Gacy, and Jeffrey Dahmer roaming the countryside. Of course you have to hate them, purely on ethical grounds.

Yeah, you gotta love to hate Foul! Very Happy
Quote:
When he was fully present, Lord Foul folded his arms on his chest and said harshly, "Now you do in truth see me, groveler." His tone gave no hint of fear or surrender. "Do you yet believe that you are my master? Fool! I grew beyond your petty wisdom or belief long before your world's babyhood. I tell you plainly, groveler - Despite such as mine is the only true fruit of experience and insight. In time you will not do otherwise than I have done. You will learn contempt for your fellow beings - for the small malices which they misname their loves and beliefs and hopes and loyalties. You will learn that it is easier to control them than to forbear - easier and better. You will not do otherwise. You will become a shadow of what I am - you will be a despiser without the courage to despise. Continue, groveler. Destroy my work if you must - slay me if you can - but make an end! I am weary of your shallow misperception."

Yeah, gotta give it up for Rant Absolain. It's a great name. Like I said though, I think my viewing of the LotR movies kinda influenced my feelings about him for some strange reason.

2 x 4 of Justice...lmao

strangely enough, unlike some others...I loved Lord Foul. He's a splendid
"bad-guy". SRD did his job well with Foul. To this day I still get kinda nervous when I read Foul's words...

Brian: Well, why don't you go and tell him you want to be a leper again?
Ex-Leper: Uh, I could do that sir, yeah. Yeah, I could do that I suppose. What I was thinking was I was going to ask him if he could make me a bit lame in one leg during the middle of the week. You know, something beggable, but not leprosy, which is a pain in the @$$ to be blunt and excuse my French, sir.

To be honest, the Haruchai. I didn't realy like their attitude in Runes. Don't get me wrong, I admire their strength and the like, but...sometimes, I just didn't like what they had to say. I liked Bannor, though.

And also, I didn't like the Elohim, for their attitude towards the group. I don't know about you guys, but I found them very arrogant.

For me, Lord Foul and the Ravers were the kind of characters I loved to hate and actually enjoyed reading about. The ones that I really hated would be the Elohim, particularly Chant. Esmer is along the same lines. I didn't initially care much for Linden but she wasn't that horrible (except in spots) and got better in Runes.

I'm so surprised at how many people didn't like Linden. She was one of my favorite characters.

I've never been over fond of Triock.
Professional victim, he's a bit whinny.

I mean Get Over Lena..she never even liked you in the First place.

Never was a fan of his, either. I think out of all the characters in all the books, Triock, Trell and Atiaran gave me the most fits. Guess the Oath of Peace never really stuck with me, because I always wanted to ask, "Why don't you just kill him?" any time they came across Covenant. Didn't help that I knew why they couldn't, or wouldn't. The three of them always drove me nuts.

I'll admit there was a fair bit of self-righteousness, but you have to admire their dedication, though. At any rate, the Ranyhyn are considerably more than just horses, and the Ramen are servants to them.

Mind you, the Ramen are one of my favorite groups from TCTC, so I'm a bit biased. Wink

I don't know anything about this "horsey" crowd, but I understand how such connections can give us a bad feeling about something. In this case, it's extremely unfortunate, because the Ramen are very cool. As Alynna says, the Ranyhyn are more than mere horses. They freakin' rock!!! The pure service that the Ramen give them is something that many humans have tried to achieve, notably the samurai. Nothing is more worthy of such service than the Ranyhyn, and nobody ever served more purely than the Ramen.

Actually, I'll go so far as to say they served better than the Bloodguard. When the Ranyhyn wouldn't leave the Plains, despite the extreme danger they were in and all Ramen and Ranyhyn deaths, because of their promise to Covenant, the Ramen continued to serve. They did not say, "We will save them regardless of their desires," and try to force the Ranyhyn to leave. Instead, they said, "We will serve you as best we are able in accordance with your desires." Pure service.Spoiler:
They even rode Ranyhyn in ROTE, because the Ranyhyn insisted on it. Shocked

Right?!? Laughing She wasn't going to marry some hick cattle herder! Still, his feelings led to this gloriously sad quote:
Quote:
Though his jaws ached with protests, Triock gave the orders which sent several of his comrades hurrying to collect supplies for Covenant, Foamfollower, and Lena. In that moment, the giving of those orders seemed to be the hardest thing he had ever done. The restraint which had allowed Covenant to live seven and forty years ago paled by comparison. The exertions which had brought Covenant to the Land now lost their meaning. Lena Atarian-daughter’s desire to accompany the Unbeliever turned all Triock’s long years of devotion to dust and loss, and all his lavish love had been wasted.

That was sad. I liked it though. I also liked the part at the end of WGW; it was real well written.

I didn't like the whole Guardian of the One Tree history. It didn't help that Brinn was the only Haruchai, in all 7 books, that I didn't care for. Even The Voice was kind of cool. But there isn't one character that I hated. Wow. That's saying something... But on the side... wouldn't it be cool to see a battle between Esmer and Nom? Not sure who I would take in that one.

Ok, now that I got that out of my system. I'd like to say the most irritating character in the new series is Anele. Good god, can he disappear please???
Second Series, I'd have to give it to Nassic. Get over it!
First series. Oh yes, that award must go to Lytton. The cop wannabe. Give me a break. Talk about gutter scum....LOL
There. Im done.
