While I agree that direct economic relief is needed, if he'd issued such an EO prior to the election, it might have shifted matters in his favor and this current post-election shitshow would have been avoided.

Instead, he ranted about the "socialism" of the other party. Ordering direct relief payments now would be the height of irony, nu?

Some Republicans, (notably I think some who won't be running for re-election) have done just that and faced remarkable backlash from those toeing the party line.

The real questions of course are whether this embarrassing denial will help him or hurt him in the future.

I would hope you're right Sarge, and in normal times I would even agree. But if there's one thing his presidency showed us its that people will support him at his most egregiously false no matter what.

Best thing for the whole system would be for him to run as an independent, but even he must know there's no power in that. (Sanders should do it too, give the fringes somewhere to coalesce and leave the more moderates to do some work for a change.)

The "nonviolent" protests are still occurring in Seattle, this time hitting a bank, a Starbucks (which is funny because Starbucks as a corporation supports liberal/Progressive causes but fails to realize that most of those people are also anti-capitalist), and the police station (again). Meanwhile, Seattle is having another crime wave (for them)--statistics going back to 2008 show that the annual number of homicides never got above 30. This year, they are at 55.

Hooray for "nonviolence".

According to Sarah Silverman--whom I have never liked--liberal comedians get a free pass on being "edgy" because they are liberal and therefore "don't mean it". Will Arnett--he is an actor but I'll be damned if I can think of anything he has been in--also blamed the recent ruination of comedy on "everyone who is not liberal" because apparently "they mean it".

That doesn't make any sense. *shrug*

You know what else doesn't make sense? Right now, in the D&D Community, there is a controversy occurring because a lot of "woke" players are upset that orcs are racist depictions of black people.

You can't make that shit up. That's like when WOTC banned cards like Cleanse even though it did not ban cards like Liliana's Defeat or Dark Betrayal.

I thought the riots would continue to happen until Biden wins, after which the Democrats will need the riots to end. Or maybe the Democrats are learning that it's not so easy to shut down riots.

Is it possible that some dems possibly encouraged or fanned the flames to try and take advantage of the moment? Sure, of course it is. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

IIRC a few people from the other side were charged in connection with acts of looting etc. too. Same thing..taking advantage of the crisis.

The actual right wings arrested during the riots is a handful. The vast majority of rioters were and continue to be the left. No matter the media and the left's fervent wishes that it not be so.

And some of the right wingers arrested that the media trots out as proof of right wing violence were for plotting violence, not engaging.
