They really weren't. They never believed in wearing masks to begin with. This is just political theater in order to try to rile up reasonable, responsible people. If you read Hashi's posts, it seems like a large number of people were just ignoring the rules to begin with.
I guess you can effectively commit suicide and "own" the libtards. Oh no. Please don't! Stop!

In English? Celsius? |
If you mean Fahrenheit, rather than the Celsius/Centigrade that Av gave, then divide by 5, then multiply by 9, then add 32. Therefore -10°C = 14°F |
Thanks. But no. Math is hard.

Bullshit.
If it was about freedom, the message would be, "It's up to you to wear a mask, but for the sake of the health of everyone you know and everyone you meet, please wear one, to keep the general public safe."
In other words, use your good judgement, and here are the facts so that you can use it.
When the message is "Welcome to FREEDOM", then it's political theatre designed to make mask wearing SEEM BAD. Which is solely because the responsible individuals suggesting you wear them are Democrats and you want to stir up sentiment against them.
In other words, use our judgement, and don't, so we get elected.
Making wearing a mask sound bad and discouraging people from wearing them is dangerous for everyone. Not only do more people get sick and die, but also the pandemic lasts longer, it has (as we have seen) more time to mutate into more dangerous forms.
It should be quite possible to promote freedom without undermining public safety. _________________ * I occasionally post things on KevinsWatch because I am a fan of Stephen R. Says the guy that got totally bent out of shape by my parody song...
If I could be a Trumpist for a day
I'd live my life the tax-free way
I'd take all the wealth and make the poor man pay
If I could be a Trumpist for a day
Now for one whole day, a Trumpist I could be
The first thing I'd do is join the GOP
And I'd let ol' Donny Trump do my thinkin' for me
If I could be a Trumpist for a day
Is it because the lyrics sound familiar to you? |

Political pressure. If you roll the clock back one year, you will find that at that time we were actually shipping likely cases of corona here to be in quarantine at the military base in San Antonio.
What got lifted was the mandate; individual businesses may still implement mask policies if they so desire, which means employees have a choice--wear a mask or look for another job. The Federal mandate still applies, so going into a bank means that you have to wear a mask.
The lockdowns were primarily politically motivated as a means to oppose Trump and help hurt the economy we had at the time. Slowing the spread was only the secondary goal, not the actual goal.
Now that the mandate is gone I may decide to continue wearing a mask becasue it is my choice and so that I can give a "fuck you" to facial recognition cameras in public areas. _________________ No matter how thinly you slice it, it's still bologna.

Go browse the "militarization of the police" thread and you will see why we should all be doing such things.

Political pressure from whom? Trump was the President. The Senate was Republican controlled. The Texas Senators were Republican. The Texas governor was Republican. Texas' AG was a Republican who filed a lawsuit to reverse the voting results in Pennsylvania. Who was putting all this political pressure on Texas in order to oppose Trump?? _________________ We are not required to save the world. Abbott was hoping to be the next Bush and jump from Governor's Office in Austin to Oval Office in Washington, D. C. When his initial lack of lockdows was not playing well nationally he shifted gears and started issuing mandates, which pissed off his Republican base here in Texas. He tried to play the middle but lost. It is now unlikely that Abbott runs for reelction in 2022.
The current Speaker of the House here put Democrat as chair on several committees even though Republicans control both Houses. All this will do is embolden them and if the House flips to Democrats in 2022 they will offer up Texas as a sacrifice to Washington, D. C., putting us at the mercy of a Federal Government which does not like us and does not have our best interests at heart. _________________ No matter how thinly you slice it, it's still bologna.

So Abbott, wanting to run for POTUS in 2024, "shifted gears" in the hope it would play well with the country's voters in 2024? _________________ We are not required to save the world. We are required to stand up as truly as we can for what we love. -SRD

Isn't that what I just said? Your pattern lately is to rephrase everything I just said as a question, as if you were unclear what was said or if you don't believe me. Apparently I am just going to have to start ignoring your questions.
*sigh* Once again--he tried to please Republicans by holding out on not issuing mandates, but some Democrat-run counties here issues mandates early as part of the overall effort to politicize the response to corona to weak Trump and shut down the strong economy we had just a year ago. When pressure mounted and he had to issue mandates, he then pissed off Republicans so he wound up not being able to satisfy anyone.
Texas is most definitely not a failed State, though, despite Democrats' best effort to make it one. _________________ No matter how thinly you slice it, it's still bologna.

The reason I want to make sure I understand is because you say it was done because of political pressure, and the goal was to oppose Trump. But you also say Abbott did it in an attempt to help a possible presidential run in 2024.
To a politically niave person like me, neither seems right. Regarding the first, the state is a Republican stronghold, and the lawsuit to overturn Pennsylvania's vote does not suggest it gives in to political pressure. Regarding the second, I don't classify trying to gain more future voters as "political pressure". Politically motivated, yes, but not political pressure.
So I'm trying to make sure I know what you're saying. And I will read your latest post again. _________________ We are not required to save the world. We are required to stand up as truly as we can for what we love. -SRD
