1 March 2021, so let's check the most up-to-date numbers, shall we?

Global population: 7,849,255,110
Global cases: 114,302,776 --> infection rate 1.456%
Global deaths: 2,534,921 --> mortality rate 2.218%

U. S. population: 330,052,960
U. S. cases: 28,618,081 --> infection rate 8.67%
U. S. deaths: 513,510 --> mortality rate 1.794%

That U. S. infection rate seems statistically anomalous--either other countries are under-reporting or we are over-reporting and I suspect the latter. Either way, our mortality rate is below the global rate so that is really good.

By comparison, the 1918 H1N1 type A--the Spanish Flu--had a global infection rate over 30% and a mortality rate between 3% and 5%, making it much more infectious and more deadly than this coronavirus. My numbers for projected cases might have been off but I am correct in my longstanding assessment that this virus simply is not all that deadly.

*************

I am seeing more people not wearing masks at the grocery store, including elderly people riding in motorized carts. No one gives a shit any more.

It must be a Texas thing. People are still taking it relatively seriously where I live.

The same "elderly people riding in motorized carts without masks" are the ones getting sick and dying from COVID. I guess if you want to die from drowning in your own bloody mucus, that is on you.

Some people don't have the sense not to piss on an electric fence...

I have always supported people's right to make decisions--even poor decisions--because "freedom" is better than the alternative.

Incidentally, peeing on an electric fence isn't as deadly as one might think--urine is not a steady stream but a collection of droplets; our eyes cannot focus on the individual droplets because they are moving too quickly but a strobe light shows that there are individual droplets. This keeps the electricity from being able to travel in a continuous path into the body. You would have to stand right next to the fence and pee on it up close in order to risk harm and/or death. Again, if that is what someone wants to do then I am not going to stop them.

I am happy to hear that some States are no longer allowing fear to control them. If nothing else this virus has enabled the govt to show just how easy it is to control the population through fear.

As is posted above the virus is not dangerous to 99% of the population. It spreads fast and fairly easy but it was never dangerous enough to close down the economy. I remember when we were only flattening the curve but the goalposts have continued to move. Now, even with a vaccine some in the govt have been saying masks will be mandated well into 2022 and perhaps for years.

Why suddenly open up NOW, when cases were starting to get under control alongside the vaccine distribution?

You could have done that months ago if you were so hellbent, yet you do it now.

This is obviously meant to undermine the pandemic response under Biden. Nothing more, and you are willing to sacrifice the lives of thousands of people in order to score some political points. You have to be a goddamn POS to just say "fuck it, let them all die."

What will happen is we will experience a sharp increase in the number of COVID cases and deaths, prolonging the time it takes to end the pandemic.

But if you get sick, don't come crying to us when it suddenly gets bad and you have to be hospitalized. Then again, you're probably okay with the anti-mask and anti-social distancing measures while you yourself are doing everything you can to work remotely and away from other people so you don't get sick.

Because its time. The govt has restricted the freedoms of the population for too long.

Let's revisit in a few months and see if this is a mistake.

PS I work at my office at my desk 4 days a week and have done so since last September.

And they couldn't have had a transition towards opening 100%? Why just suddenly go from having pandemic health measures to having none at all?

Even from the standpoint of wanting to open the state back up, it sounds nonsensical to just abruptly reverse everything at the same time rather than ease the health measures over the next couple of months. It sounds poorly thought-out, especially since it is directly going against CDC advice.

Something I would expect from a governor whose state can't handle a few inches of snow without a catastrophic power grid failure, years after being warned that the infrastructure couldn't handle severe winter weather and doing nothing about it.

The economy should never have been shut down in the first place, given the low mortality rate of corona. The phrase "except in case of viral outbreak" is not in the Constitution.

For Brother ur-Nan, all threads are the same thread.

Speakign of making all threads the same thread....because of Biden's immigration policies people who are being allowed entry into the United States but who are also testing positive for corona are being allowed to travel freely to their eventual destinations despite being advised to quarantine for two weeks. In other words, Chairman Joe's immigration policies are causing new cases to spread. Come on, man!

I have been here all along. The economy should never have been shut down for a virus with an overall infection rate of 1.5% and a mortality rate of 2.2%. That is the the Black Death as most feared but a really bad flu season.

IMO, things have gone as they should have. We might be facing worse than the last pandemics if things had not largely shut down. It bought time to get the immunizations going. Now open up and everybody be as careful as they want.

Not enough people have been immunized to warrant opening back up yet. What this will do is spread the coronavirus even more and make vaccine-resistant strains more prevalent.

Of course, none of this matters to the GOP. They do not care about your health or well-being. The power grid failure in Texas is proof of that.

Your 2.2% mortality rate is AFTER physicians have learned how to better treat patients who had COVID. The case fatality rate was 10% or higher early on into the pandemic. It was as high as 20% in parts of Mexico, which implies that it is much higher without access to hospital care.

2.2% mortality rate is still as bad as certain cancers. You would lose your shit if you got cancer, even if it had a good prognosis.

Would you swallow cyanide if Trump told you to? Don't live in fear of the unknown!

------------

Also it's rich that you talk about freedom, given the fact that you are a neo-Confederate.

A popular Confederate era song goes something like this:

Quote:
O I'm a good old rebel,
Now that's just what I am.
For this "fair land of freedom"
I do not care a damn.
I'm glad I fit against it,
I only wish we'd won,

And I don't want no pardon
For anything I done.

I hates the Constitution,
This great republic too,

I hates the Freedmans' Buro,
In uniforms of blue.
I hates the nasty eagle,
With all his braggs and fuss,
The lyin' thievin' Yankees,
I hates 'em wuss and wuss.

I hates the Yankees nation
And everything they do,
I hates the Declaration,
Of Independence, too.

I hates the glorious Union-
'Tis dripping with our blood-
I hates their striped banner,
I fit it all I could

You can't claim to be a freedom-loving patriotic American and be sympathetic to the Confederate cause at the same time. My ancestors fought for the Confederacy, too, but I am not proud of that aspect of my history because they were traitors.

Doesn't matter--everyone freaked out because they thought there would be bodies in the streets. Of course the mortality rate was high in the beginning, but only a fool would think that the rate would stay that high for very long. If Mexico's mortality rate was 20%, well then that is on Mexico--they need to send in the military to root out the cartels once and for all then improve their economy and healthcare systems.

"Fear of the unknown" does not apply to cyanide--that chemical's deadly effects are alrady known.

UR, you won't get a rise out of me that easy.

You know everything is not framed around politics nor should it be. Try being objective at least a little bit because you are truly making yourself look foolish. Name calling is what is resorted to when your arguments don't hold water.

1. There WERE bodies in the streets. There were reports of people dropping dead on the streets of Wuhan.

2. Only a fool would not take measures when there was an early mortality rate that high. 10% or higher is insane for any infectious disease. The infection rate for COVID is much higher than the 1% figure you pulled out of your ass, by the way. The virus is airborne.

3. Actually, the cartels were probably the only real enforcers of pandemic policy in Mexico. Ironically enough, they took extreme measures to prevent the spread of the disease because it wasn't good for their business.

---

How do you know cyanide is so deadly? Maybe the effects are exaggerated! After all, there are people who eat bitter almonds (which have a dangerously high cyanide content) because they think it will prevent cancer.

---

For all you uneducated people who think you know more than experts who have spent decades learning about the subject, why don't you simply shut the fuck up and let physicians do their jobs?

Have you ever studied medicine, Soulbiter? Hashi?

For those on The Left, absolutely everything is politics all the time, regardless of the subject at hand. That is actually listed in Saul Alinsky's book about radicalism--make everything about politics.

He also states that one of the most useful tools of the radical is ridicule. Remember that the next time Brother ur-Nan is trying to poke fun--he is literally following Alinsky's advice like a good radical.

1: that is China's problem, not mine.

2: the infection and mortality rate numbers I cite come directly from Johns Hopkins. Are they pulling numbers out of their ass?

3: according to the Texas Tribune, the cartels did not do a goddamned thing about corona and they know much more about the cartels than you do.

Have you ever studied politics or economics? It sure doesn't sound like it, so why don't you shut the fuck up and let everyone else do those jobs?
