Still say arresting Illegals is right. We arrest people in other states that have broken the law.
Why should law breakers in Arizona not be arrested?

If your in another country than your own, should you expect parades and celebrations if you forgo the proper entry into that country.
Would that country kiss your butt because you were there?
Would they declare a holiday in your name?

If yes, then I've got a deal for you.

The argument will not need much nuance. 14th Amendment Equal protection argument. You can't deny some people the right to buy and rent property based upon citizenship.

However, you can deny them the ability to work in the U.S. under existing federal law. Enforce that and problem is solved.

Where in the 14th amendment is work separated from property ownership?
Why would it
Quote:
deny some people the right to buy and rent property based upon citizenship.

and yet not
Quote:
deny them the ability to work in the U.S. under existing federal law.

I don't see it written that way at all. By itself, a 14th amendment argument in this situation is both fruitless and irrelevant.

It seems like "enforcing that and the problem is solved" would still require a "racial profiling," which a lot seem to be against, but I feel is necessary--just remove the word "race". Although, IMO, if an E-coli outbreak was traced back to a shipment of apples, I wouldn't pull oranges off the shelf. That would truly be "fruitless." Big Grin

Seems like contradictory sentences. We can deny then work without going against the 14th ammendment, yet we cannot deny them housing. Hows that work?

Yeah...I'd think if you can't deny them the right to buy or rent property due to immigration status, you can't deny them anything due to immigration status.

I'd be surprised if the constitution has much to say about citizenship actually. Does it?

The 14th doesn't apply here. The reason being that the prospective renter is actively breaking the law at the time he's trying to rent a place. It's sort of like how the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply while you're robbing a bank.

Ok, that makes sense. Agreed. By being there illegally, you're breaking the law. Which makes you a criminal.

Interesting that a judge has gutted the law and probably paved the way for a SCOTUS challenge. The Law of Unintended Consequences is a bitch, and much like Ted Nugent accidentally inventing rap with "Wango Tango", this case could see the courts forcing the federal government to enforce current immigration laws and seal the border.

What's interesting to me is that nobody has posted a link yet to this story, which came out Monday:
Quote:
Deportation of illegal immigrants increases under Obama administration

By Peter Slevin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, July 26, 2010

In a bid to remake the enforcement of federal immigration laws, the Obama administration is deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants and auditing hundreds of businesses that blithely hire undocumented workers.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency expects to deport about 400,000 people this fiscal year, nearly 10 percent above the Bush administration's 2008 total and 25 percent more than were deported in 2007. The pace of company audits has roughly quadrupled since President George W. Bush's final year in office.

There's more at the link. But it's pretty clear that despite what you read in the right-wing blogosphere, Obama is tougher on illegal immigration than Bush was.

Unfortunately he's kicking out those with engineering and science degrees whose visa's expired. The rapists and murderers get 7 appeals before deportation.

no, i have nothing to backup my claim either.
But I suspect it to be true.

Thanks for demonstrating my point in the process, SC. (HLT's "whose visa's expired" draws no Nazi fire.)

Let's be fair. It was clearly lighthearted. I doubt he noticed HLT's because by his own admission, his own spelling is bad.

This is why we don't make an issue out of anybodies typo's or mistakes, it happens to everybody. (Except me. Wink )

Give him a break, he's too new to know, and there was nothing malicious there.
