I bought a copy of Rockband for the PS2 Wednesday.
Whammy Bar on Wireless Guitar broke within 12 hours of purchase.
Kick Pedal on Drum Kit Snapped in Half yesterday during "Run to the Hills."
They should have used better plastics. |

I'd say so, considering I broke the kick pedal during Run to the Hills on Hard and still managed to pass the song. |

There have been large problems with the gear breaking. So much so that there are stickers on the box saying not to return it to the store, and that you should contact EA directly for replacement parts.
This is what my kick pedal currently looks like:
I'm gonna have to find some way to mod it without spending much money. Probably something involving duct tape and tin snips. |

The Rock Band pedal is much, much more tiring than a real one. I'm thinking about getting an old, cheap, beat up one and modding it like this |

I'd heard of a lot of issues with the guitars breaking but the drum kit is supposed to be quite robust. I know a lot of people who own both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band use the GHIII guitar for both because it's supposed to be tougher. _________________ Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?

Wow, that really sucks about the Rockband probs. We are considering getting RB for PS2... in your opinion, do the problems with it overshadow having it? I mean, is it now essentially unplayable?
Based on some of the things you have said, EL, is it that the spring is too thick - i.e., too tough to compress? Could you swap it out with a squishier one, assuming you can get the broken plastic pieces together again(maybe with something like plastic tie-straps and an epoxy)? Or do you feel that the pedal is structurally compromised beyond a fix?

That modification looks interesting. Possibly you could replace the entire pedal with a different pedal assembly. It might be easier than the mod shown. Hmm . .
By the way, this makes me think of the splicing job I once had to do on my old school nintendo Maxx controler. The puppy got a hold of the cord, and chewed halfway through it. I cut out the bad part, respliced the wire together, and covered the entire cord in electrical tape. And then I kept it where the puppy couldn't find it. Good times! _________________

It's playable on some songs. As long as the song does not have alot of bass drum, I won't fail the song. I actually can play several songs on expert without the bass drum that I fail on expert when trying to use it. Go figure.
The breaking of the pedal does not seem to be as large an issue as the guitars breaking. Mine snapped because I started treating it like a real kick pedal instead of remember it's made out of plastic.
As to buying the PS2 version, if I'd known it was coming out for the Wii before I bought mine, I wouldn't have bought it. |

I got my Rock band set up for X-mas. The guitar is great and still going strong...much better than the GH guitars. It feels more solid and much more like a real guitar. My bass pedal snapped as well. My brother, who is a drummer in a band, snapped it playing on expert. The engineering is a bit weak as there is a structural weakness where the stoppers on the pedal contact the base. I sent mine back to EA and they sent a new one no problem.
My brother recently bought the game for himself and promptly snapped his pedal as well. He fixed his with two butter knives inserted into the pedal and some duct tape. _________________ War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. No. . . the good times is fixing the problem. I used to take thing apart and play with them until I understood how to fix them. My Mom made a rule that I could only do that with things that were broken. For some reason she didn't want me to take apart things that were already working. _________________

But they're not working as well as they could be working until you take them apart and figure out how they work and then put them back together and then find out you've got a lot of spare pieces left over after you took the thing apart and put it back together but it's okay because it still works fine so you must have optimised it. |

Mom didnt' see it that way. . . she preferred things "unoptimized". . . unless they no longer worked. We had a phone in the kitchen that I fixed at least once a year for 6 years. As far as I know it's still working. _________________
