I picked this up not because I'm a huge fan of KSR's writing (I remember reading Red Mars a long while back). He definitely has a completely different style of writing from, say SRD for example, which makes it hard for me to read his stuff. However, I picked it up I think mainly in a post-Interstellar desire to read some quasi-possible scenarios of space colonization. Interesting read so far. I still don't think KSR does a great job with characters though. Too boring for my taste. His description of the planets are the real characters.

About a 3rd of the way through. Getting more interesting. KSR still sucks at making interesting characters. But he's still quite good describing the planets and moons.
But yes, he likes his boring moments where not much happens.
However, now I just want to read the Gap more than ever, haha.

To quote a socialist friend of mine 2312 is so smugly marxist as to be off putting. It's not a bad book it just makes the future world seem so perfectly Marxist that it seems quite false. _________________ "Futility is the defining characteristic of life.
