Savor Dam, no, I did not intend to imply that the Court is political; I was merely upset about this whole "truth and accountability project" bullshit which, truthfully, sound like Nightwatch or some form of secret police. Are "deputized" citizens going to go around and randomly question people to determine their political loyalties?

Also, the election was not "stolen"--I have already indicated that the results are what they are and that people need to learn how to live with the results.

The over-joyous celebrations of Biden's victory, though....they remind me of a baseball team whose record is 1 - 4 yet they manage to beat the team who is currently in first place by 1 point, resulting in that team dancing and gyrating in the other team's presence, telling them things such as "in your face!" or "suck it, loser!". erm...you still have a losing record, so you aren't that good and you didn't win that much. I get it, though--after 4 years of losing, losing, losing they were desperate for a win, so any win will be celebrated as if it were A Big Fucking Deal (tm).

I don't keep track, but I suspect there were quite a few things said when Trump won, too.

And there are those who think the US presidency is ABFD, indeed. None think that more than Trump and his followers.

People often gloat and it is unbecoming regardless of who does it. I don't recall Trump supporters gloating but I remember them being a bit stunned--they did not expect him to win back then, either.

There is a lot of social status linked to being POTUS and far too many people put too much of their sense of self into that office, as if Biden winning somehow validates them as a person.

I agree. It's the same with sports. The fanatics act as though it's a personal victory. Some don't seem to know they played no role in it, and the team has no earthly idea who they are.

I honestly don't really care who won. Don't get me wrong; I applaud the election of a person with an even remotely statesmanlike character. But mainly I hope that the US will get it's shit together and start playing ball with the rest of the world. There are a few issues in which they can and should be a material player.

And before you say it: yes, I honestly think that Denmark should own up and pay their dues to NATO Wink

Welcome back.

Most Americans under the age of 40 have almost no idea what NATO is, probably could not tell you what the acronym means, or why it exists.

Very true. Many people say "this-and-such group is the most dangerous threat to democracy" but those people are mistaken. Uneducated voters are the most dangerous threat to democracy imaginable.

Indeed, Hashi. Which is why no expense is really to high when it comes to educating the members of a stable democracy.

Wasn't that Plato's main argument against it? Very Happy

And yes, I couldn't agree more...education is key and speaking for SA, our failure in this regard is going to hold us back for a long time yet it looks like.

our public schools are held hostage to failure by Democrats and the Teacher's Unions.

Democrats are against school choice because the Teacher's Union is against school choice. Because the Union exists to keep teachers employed no matter how they do their job. Who cares if minority students would benefit from schools having to work for their pay.

Seems a bit pat Sarge. I do agree however that your unions seems to have lost sight of the point of unions, but I see plenty of stuff about the lack of support for teachers etc. that seems to drive many (perhaps the best) off from their careers.

Not sure what you're referring to by "school choice" though?

No price is too high when you're spending other people's money. Laughing Laughing

Welcome back, Prebe! I've not been around much myself in the last few months. I just finished a 69 hour work week, and haven't had much time to post lately. Nice to drop in and see a familiar "face" that we haven't seen in a long time.

When there are only two dumb choices for a candidate, it makes zero difference how smart (or educated) the electorate is. Smart/educated people make dumb choices all the time. I think that some people assume that if you just educate people enough, they'll stop voting the "wrong" way (i.e. opposite of themselves). But there are highly educated people on both sides of the political divide, and they still disagree. Education won't produce a consensus on the "best" or "right" way to govern. It's all a matter of preference and values. The two sides want different things. You can't teach someone to want something they don't want. We need a common set of values, more than we need education (at least for the purpose of voting . . . education has benefits well beyond voting/politics).

So yeah, there is a price that's too high to pay. We could spend a 1000 times more on education and still have exactly the same level of polarization and piss poor candidates from which to choose.

Yeah, true that. (Nice to see you around.)

Of course, having multiple dumb choices for candidate doesn't help much either, but at least separating out the fringes on each side by giving them their own parties might help the polarisation.

Surely far more people sit in the middle?

Seems the problem is the candidate selection process?

But they don't have anybody else to vote for...no matter what shade of right or left you are, there is only one option for either...alignment...
